Student housing decisions are commute decisions wearing a different hat. These are door-to-door times, on foot or by subway, whichever is faster.

A rate that does not have a second half
Student budgets tend to break on the things quoted separately. Here the weekly rate carries electricity, gas, heat, water, sewer and trash, plus air conditioning, Wi-Fi and weekly housekeeping. There is no utility account to open and nothing that arrives later and changes the number.
The Deluxe Room is $525 a week with a shared bathroom. The Studio Basic is $650 and en-suite. The King Studio is $745, the largest, and the only one that two people can share.
There is a laundry room, a lounge, a courtyard and a communal kitchen in the building. There is no stove or oven in the rooms themselves - cooking happens in that shared kitchen, which is worth knowing before you arrive with a rice cooker and a plan.
Semester terms without a semester lease
The minimum stay is seven nights and everything is quoted weekly, which maps onto an academic calendar better than a twelve-month lease does. A single semester, a summer term, a research stint or a rotation all book for exactly their length.
It also means the end of the year is not an administrative event. You leave when the term ends rather than subletting through a summer you are not here for.
Studying in a building rather than an apartment
Sixty-one rooms across six floors, run as one operation, with a lounge and a courtyard that are not anyone's living room. Weekly housekeeping means the shared parts stay usable in a way that a four-person flatshare in week ten generally does not.
The block helps too. East 40th between Lexington and Third is residential on both sides and stays quiet, which is unusual two blocks from 42nd Street and matters a great deal the night before an exam.

- Thirteen minutes door to door. CUNY Graduate Center is an eleven-minute walk and Hunter College is sixteen minutes.

- Is there somewhere to cook?
- There is a communal kitchen in the building. Rooms have a mini-fridge, a microwave and a kettle but no stove or oven.
